Walking Dead is a plot driven story that thinks it's a character driven story and consequently does neither very well. I watch it, but meh, I'm not compelled to keep up with it like I am, say, Breaking Bad, which knows exactly what it is -- a plot driven juggernaut -- and delivers. Every. Single. Episode. Not to say it needs to be plot driven. But choose one and do it well. And you're right about missed opportunities. Early images like the legless zombie, and Rick's compassion for it, or even later the hanging zombie -- a victim who didn't understand what he was setting himself up for -- are images that'll stay with me, not just for their gore but for the humanity they laced into the meme.
