Gortimer Spotting

Not that I’m a workaholic, but I hate hiatus. And we’ve been on hiatus for three weeks which means I’m kind of bonkers. Thankfully, that all comes to an end on Tuesday, right after the Labor Day holiday, and we get back to making more Gortimer episodes. It couldn’t come soon enough. I’ve had some of the worse insomnia I’ve ever had, including one stretch where I simply did not sleep for about 36 hours straight. The truth is that work, especially making-tv-show work, is a great distraction and right now a great distraction is what I need. I don’t want to think about the last few months, I just want to keep marching forward.

About once per day someone reaches out to me — through the blog, or on Twitter or some other way — and asks when season two will stream. I promise when I know you will hear about it through all available channels — the blog, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, everything. Nothing is official until Amazon announces the date, so we all have to be patient until then.

In the meantime, some amazing things happened. First, Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street premiered on Canada’s Family Channel. Since those crafty Canadians have blocked all Internet access to the Family Channel’s website from the US, I have almost no further information on this, but if you caught Gortimer up there in the Great White North, leave a comment, I’d love to hear how it was received.

Now here’s something really exciting — Gortimer was all over the Variety Youth Impact Report 2015, and annual report featuring the year’s biggest players. Amazon Studio’s exec in charge of kids’ programming, Tara Sorensen, was featured for leading a wave of great shows including Gortimer. Our own “Stanley”, David Bloom, was recognized for being a stand-out in Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp and we’ll get to see more of him in season 2. Finally, our three Gortimer co-stars were spotlighted specifically for their roles on the show and I couldn’t be more proud. The recognition also comes just in time for Ashely Boettcher’s birthday — happy birthday Ashely!

Here’s a real treat. Our esteemed Director of Photography, Eduardo Mayèn, was featured in an in-depth article in ICG Magazine — the official magazine the International Cinematographers Guild — for his Emmy-nominated work on Gortimer. It’s an amazing write up. Our show wouldn’t be the same without Eduardo. We are so lucky to have him. Here’s some of what I said about him in the article:

“[Thanks to Eduardo] when you look at the show, you feel the emotion and friendship at the heart of every scene. And while Eduardo is well respected for his artistry and his talent on set, he also happens to be one of the kindest, most caring and warm-hearted people I’ve ever met. Honestly, I think part of the reason our show succeeds like it does is because of Eduardo’s humanity.”

We made the cover too. This also serves as your first semi-official sneak peek at an episode of Gortimer’s second season so I leave you with this — behold!

    Hi, Dave.

Congratulations on your immense success! I hope your health is improving so you can enjoy all of this so much more. My sister lives in Canada and I’m asking her to watch GORTIMER on Family Channel. I’ve told her all about your show and I know she’ll enjoy it too. Can’t wait to see season two.
